Construction Skills Network forecasts 2019-2023 - UK
According to the latest Construction Skills Network (CSN) report 2019-2023:
- Construction output will grow by 1.3% a year
- 168,500 construction jobs will be created, up from the 2018-2022 figure of 158,000
- Public housing (3.2%) has surpassed infrastructure (1.9%) as the sector predicted to see the best growth in the next five years.
- The most buoyant of the English regions are projected to be West Midlands and the South West with growth at 2.3% and 2.2% respectively.
- Wales, which led the growth rankings for four successive years, has seen a significant reduction in growth due to Hitachi’s recent announcement that the Wylfa new nuclear build project has been put on hold.
- Like Wales, construction output in Scotland is expected to grow by an annual average of 0.5% from 2019-23, leading to marginal employment growth over the period.
What does this mean for construction jobs?
The jobs most in demand over the next five years in the UK will be:
- Other construction process managers (3,420)
- Other construction professional and technical staff (3,260)
- Wood trades and interior fit-out (2,380).
