Employment by occupation
This is the fifth in a series of surveys that was first conducted in 1998 and repeated in 2001, 2005 and 2011. The survey sets out to provide accurate estimates of workforce size and composition in terms of the number of employees, trainees, and self-employed, by occupational category, and by gender across both non-manual and manual occupations.
The 2015 survey was commissioned by Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) in partnership with Department for Business and Innovation Skills and carried out by NatCen Social Research (NatCen). CITB is both the Industry Training Board and a partner in the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry, working with industry, for industry to deliver a safe, professional and fully qualified UK construction workforce.
The results will enable CITB to express a reasonable opinion about the size and structure of occupations that cannot be easily disaggregated from national statistics (specifically the Labour ForceSurvey). They will also provide a basis for analysing skill needs and for planning future training requirements in the construction industry.
