Go behind the scenes of British construction during Open Doors Week
Open Doors sees the construction industry open active building sites so the public can go ‘behind the scenes’ to see the latest projects and building designs. One of the aims is to encourage the next generation of talent into the industry.
Construction offers a rich mix of opportunities spanning hundreds of professions with tens of thousands of apprenticeship places available. Open Doors showcases trade roles alongside jobs in operations, sales, engineering and technology.
Anyone with an interest can book a place on the Open Doors website where new sites are being added daily. Confirmed locations include Multiplex’s 80 Charlotte Street in London, Balfour Beatty’s Dundee Regional Performance Centre for Sport in Scotland and Lovell Homes’ Mill Canton in Cardiff.
Open Doors is delivered by Build UK working in partnership with CITB, with other supporters including Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) and media partner Construction News.
Janette Welton-Pai, Partnership Manager at CITB, said: “CITB is proud to be a partner in this excellent initiative. This year’s Open Doors event gives visitors access to a huge variety of construction sites around the country where they can see for themselves the many careers available in our sector. We encourage people from all ages and backgrounds to sign up and see just what construction has to offer.”
Build UK Chief Executive Suzannah Nichol MBE added: “Bookings are open for Open Doors 2019, which offers a fantastic opportunity to have a closer look at not only some of Great Britain’s most exciting construction projects, but also a chance to hear first-hand about what is on offer if you follow the path into construction. I can say first-hand that you certainly won’t regret choosing a career in the industry!”
