The project will increase access to the right training for fitters/plant mechanics in the tool hire industry.
The current level 3 NVQ plant maintenance qualification, whilst relevant to our sector, concentrates on larger equipment the Service Tech training will focus specifically on small hand held tools and equipment hire. In turn this will reduce skills shortages and reduce skills gaps.
At the end of the project, the training content will be available through National Occupational Standards for 'Small plant and tool maintenance' specialist up-skilling programme.
- Develop a new L2 Specialist Up-Skilling Programme qualification for tool and equipment hire companies and pilot with 30 individuals.

End of project summary
The project finished in June 2017. Nine L2 training modules were produced and by the end of the pilot phase 46 people had attended the training from 14 different companies.
As a result of this project, CITB National Occupational Standards were developed in Small Plant & Tools Maintenance.
