The project will develop and deliver a programme aimed at promoting careers in the construction sector and address the employment challenge facing the construction sector in the South West.
The target new entrants are career changers and groups that are under-represented in our sector. The programme will focus on delivering training outcomes in Chartered Management Institute Diploma level 2, 3 or 4 depending on professional background and experience.
As well as SSMTS, CSCS, multi-trade construction awards, project management, English, maths and ICT as required.
- Engage 12 construction employers in hosting / employing career changers
- Engage 24 career changers / new entrants in a 1-year placement
- 50 mentors engaged and delivering placements.

Project summary
The Step In Step Up project was a new collaboration between construction employers, education providers and training groups to support career changers and unemployed people into construction careers. Participants were offered a tailored programme of training, work experience and introductions to job opportunities.
A total of 29 individuals completed the programme with seven obtaining permanent jobs and several more securing fixed term opportunities.
