Scaffolding apprenticeship course

This apprenticeship course is for people who want to gain a vocational qualification in Scaffolding practices and concepts while gaining industry experience.

You’ll enjoy training in a host of fundamental scaffolding principles, looking at a range of professional practices and gaining a practical insight to a variety of industry practices.

Course content

The course will cover practical principles in:

  • Independent scaffolds
  • Birdcage scaffolds
  • Tower scaffolds
  • Cantilever scaffolds
  • Pavement scaffolds
  • Roof scaffolds
  • General workplace safety
  • Efficient work practices
  • Manual Handling practices
  • Use of Fall Protection Equipment

You’ll learn basic skills, knowledge and awareness in:

  • Interpreting drawings
  • Estimating resourcing 
  • Basic building methods
  • Building elements 

You’ll also focus on personal skills in:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Drug and alcohol awareness
  • Fairness, Inclusion & Respect 
  • Personal organisation
  • Study Skills 

Teaching and assessment

7 weeks' training delivered over 18-24 months, completed in four blocks.

  • Online induction 1 Week
  • On Site experience 6 Months
  • College – Part 1 3 Weeks
  • On Site experience 6 Months
  • College – Part 2 3 Weeks
  • On Site experience 6 Months
  • College – Final Assessment 1 Week

Qualifications you gain

  • Level 2 NVQS Diploma in Accessing and Rigging Occupations: Scaffolding
  • The construction Industry Scaffolders’ Record scheme (CISRS) Scaffolders’ Registration Card
  • Level 4 ICT skills
  • You may also gain value added qualifications in first aid and industry specific subjects

Methods of assessment

You will be regularly assessed through a range of methods, including written assessment, practical assessment, verbal questioning and presentation and multiple-choice testing.  You will also be required to complete college-based and site-based activity journals.  You will be given clear, direct and constructive feedback to enable to progress to a successful completion.

The following CITB grants are available for employers to fund their apprentices on this course:

If you applied for your apprenticeship through the Education and Skills Funding Agency, only applicants aged between 16 and 18 who have not been placed on a training scheme before are guaranteed full funding.
