NCC East at Bircham Newton was formerly a Royal Air Force (RAF) base, and has occupied the site since 1964.

The RAF Bircham Newton Memorial Project was established in 2005 to commemorate the distinguished history of the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force at Bircham Newton between 1918 and 1962.

The project established permanent memorials to those who served at RAF Bircham Newton and at nearby RAF Docking. The project also opened a heritage centre to display some of the history of those people who played a vital role at the station over its long history.

RAF Bircham Newton heritage centre

At the heritage centre you can find out more about the Royal Flying Corps and the RAF. A huge range of archive material – memorabilia, aircraft models, photos, maps, medals, uniforms, first-hand accounts of the ‘Bircham Newton experience’ and many other displays – are available to all visitors.

The heritage centre (located in the old Commanding Officer’s residence) has a very relaxed atmosphere and is within easy walking distance of The Birches. It has disabled access a large car park. Entry and parking are free.
