This 10-day course is for people with limited or no experience of operating a Mobile crane.
It teaches you how to operate and maintain a Mobile crane safely.

Course content
Each topic focuses on practical application and safety standards to ensure delegates develop comprehensive crane operation skills.
- Pre-Use Checks
- Conduct thorough inspections to ensure crane readiness and safety compliance.
- Configuring and Setting the Mobile Crane for Travel
- Prepare the crane for movement on-site and on highways, adhering to safety standards.
- Traveling to the Area of Work
- Safely manoeuvre the crane to designated work areas, considering site-specific requirements.
- Manoeuvring in Confined Spaces
- Techniques for operating and manoeuvring the crane in tight or restricted areas.
- Configuring for Lifting Duties
- Set up the crane for various lifting tasks, ensuring stability and adherence to guidelines.
- Deploying Outriggers
- Correctly position outriggers based on specific requirements to maintain stability during lifts.
- Proximity Hazards and Services
- Identify and manage potential hazards, including underground and overhead services.
- Rated Capacity Indicators (RCI)
- Programming and using RCIs for accurate load measurements and safe lifting operations.
- Lifting and Placing Loads
- Mastery of lifting techniques, including full radius and slewing capabilities for precise load placement.
- Adjusting Rope on Hook Block
- Changing the number of rope falls on the hook block for various load requirements.
- Minimising Load Swing
- Techniques for controlling load movement and reducing swinging during lifting and travel.
- Machine Travel with Loads (Where Applicable)
- Safely moving loads using the crane’s travel functions when applicable.
- Maintaining Safe Working Situations
- Continual awareness and application of safety measures throughout crane operations.
- Compliance with Signals and Instructions
- Understanding and following hand signals, radio commands, and on-site instructions.
- Rigging and De-Rigging Procedures
- Procedures for fitting and removing fly jibs or boom extensions.
- Dismantling for Movement
- Preparing and securing the crane for relocation to another area or site.
- Shut Down and Securing Procedures
- Safely shutting down and securing the crane post-operation to ensure equipment integrity.
Teaching and assessment
- 9 days training - classroom-based tutorials and practical exercises
- 1 day assessment - CPCS technical tests.
Qualifications you get
- CPCS trained operator card (red card) on passing the CPCS technical tests
- CITB National Construction College e-certificate available on request.
Mandatory entry requirements
- CITB Health, safety and environment test passed no more than two years before the course start date or alternatively the new CPCS Plant Operative Health Safety and Environment Test, specifically tailored for Plant Operators.

At the time of booking, delegates should indicate which endorsement(s) they need training on. The course will be tailored according to the selected endorsement(s):
- A60A – Blocked Duties Only - Use of a mobile crane with a minimum of four outriggers extended to execute lifting tasks.
- A60C – All Duties - Comprehensive skills for both Blocked and Pick and Carry duties.
