Temporary works coordinator - refresher

Purpose/scope
The purpose of Temporary works coordinator – refresher course is for delegates who have previously passed the full Temporary works coordinator course or subsequent refresher course and can provide proof of attendance.

Delegates pre-requisites
There are no delegate pre-requisites as part of this standard, however a basic knowledge of health and safety legislation that are common to temporary works is recommended.
Instruction/ supervision
As a minimum, course trainers must be able to demonstrate that, in relation to this standard, they have:
- an award in education and training (or equivalent, as per requirements for approved training organisations)
- successfully completed training to this standard
- at least 2 years relevant experience in temporary works
- a verifiable CV that demonstrates relevant practical and design experience of temporary works (such as falsework, formwork, access and protection).
Delivery
All materials and equipment must be of a suitable quality and quantity for delegates to achieve learning outcomes and must comply with relevant legislation.
The minimum number of delegates per course is four. The maximum number of delegates per course is 20. These minimum and maximum learner numbers are not subject to an appeal.
A publication to support the training must be made available to each delegate to use throughout and to keep for reference.
The following delivery methods may be used in the delivery of this standard:
- face to face learning environment only (such as classroom/workshop etc.)
- virtual only (guided learning on-line)
- a blend of face to face and virtual
This standard is 100% theoretical training.
This standard is considered to be set at an intermediate level.
Assessment
For the successful completion of training, delegates must complete an end of course assessment that measures all learning outcomes and has a pass or fail criteria.

Learning outcomes

The delegate will be able to:
- describe the different types of temporary works and temporary works solutions
- describe the history that set requirements for a series of changes, to create a robust, safety-conscious process for the design, installation, management, and removal of temporary works
- explain the hazards, risks, causes and consequences of failure in temporary works
- describe the techniques used to avoid failure, focussing on the 4Cs
- describe the key roles and responsibilities of the primary stakeholders responsible for managing the safe implementation, management and dismantling of temporary works, including the appointment of key roles
- explain the management and control of the design, materials, components, and key solutions
- describe the key processes that form a safe system of work
- state the key elements involved in appointing competent organisations, designers, and contractors to manage the execution of the works on site
- describe the importance of implementation risk classification and its impact on risk management
- explain the key considerations for the co-ordination, supervision and checking of work on site during the construction, erection and dismantling of temporary works
