Handheld line removal - Refresher

Minimum half day of 3 learning hours
Purpose/scope
The purpose of the handheld line removal - refresher standard is for delegates who have previously passed training to the full handheld line removal standard or subsequent refresher training and can provide proof of attendance.

Delegates pre-requisites
Delegates must have successfully completed training to the handheld line removal standard or subsequent refresher 3 years prior to attending this refresher.
Instruction/supervision
As a minimum, course trainers must be able to demonstrate that, in relation to this standard, they have:
- an award in education and training (or equivalent, as per requirements for approved training organisations)
- successfully completed training to this standard
- at least 2 years relevant industrial experience
- a verifiable CV
Delivery
The following method(s) may be used in the delivery of this standard:
- on the job in a safe environment
- classroom
All materials and equipment must be of a suitable quality and quantity for delegates to achieve learning outcomes and must comply with relevant legislation.
The class size and delegate/trainer ratio must allow training to be delivered in a safe manner and enable candidates to achieve the learning outcomes.
Learning will use a blend of classroom and practical learning aimed at ensuring the delegate can safely use the pedestrian applicator to effectively install thermoplastic road markings.
This standard is considered to contain 51% or more practical training.
Assessment
Methods of assessment considered appropriate for training delivered against this standard are:
- practical assessment: off the job simulated environment
- theory assessment: classroom, e-learning, or a combination
For the successful completion of training, delegates must complete an end of course practical assessment and knowledge test that measures all learning outcomes and has a pass or fail criteria.
Where this training is assessed using multiple-choice questions, a minimum of 10 questions must be asked and delegates are required to achieve an overall pass mark of at least 80%.
Quality assurance
Assured
Quality assurance against this standard will require initial approval of the training organisation and their content mapped to the standard.
CITB will also conduct an approval intervention, either desk-based or centre visit, to ensure the training organisation can meet the requirements of the training standard.
Approved training organisations (ATOs) will be required to present information on records of training and assessment upon request to CITB for desk-based analysis. They will also be visited annually by the CITB quality assurance team.

Learning outcomes to be refreshed
The delegate will be able to:
- describe the equipment: HCA lance and a hand-propelled scabbler with compressor
- compare removal methods: HCA lance, dustless blasting, scabbling, and high-pressure water blasting
- store, handle, and decant fuels such as: LPG, petrol, diesel, and oils
- perform safe preparation and planning to remove thermoplastic road markings
- describe the hazards, risks, controls, and safe work practices associated with the equipment
- set up, pre-use safety check, maintain, shut down, set down, and store the equipment
- remove thermoplastic road markings using the equipment
- identify faults and issues with removal of thermoplastic and use of the equipment
- describe the main legislation, codes of practice, and/or standards, including manual handling, COSHH, and traffic management
