Lead Sheet Craft Operative (Flat and Pitched Roofing)

Purpose/scope
The purpose of this standard is to provide the delegate with the knowledge to support the following:
Scope:
- understanding of the Code Of Practice Design Recommendations
- correct use of welding equipment
- correct use of tools to install and fabricate roofing details
- how to fabricate & install flat roofing with bossed & welded roll ends and abutments with rolls staggered.
- how to fabricate & install 3 -10 degree sloping roofing with bossed & welded roll ends and abutments with rolls in line.
- how to fabricate & install pitched roof above 10 degrees with wood rolled, hollow roll & welted joint including fixings.
- how to fabricate & install parapet gutter with step details.
- how to fabricate & install box gutter sump with circular spigot outlet
- how to fabricate & install box gutter chute to hopper through wall.
- correct way to recycle waste materials

Delegate pre-requisites
Delegates should have successfully completed training to one of the following standards: Traditional Basic Leadcraft, Lead Sheet Welding Basic or Lead Sheet Craft Operative Basic Bossing or be able to demonstrate their ability on a pre course assessment and have knowledge of roofing terminology and techniques.
Instruction/supervision
As a minimum, course trainers must be able to demonstrate that, in relation to this standard, they have:
- an award in education and training (or equivalent, as per requirements for approved training organisations)
- successfully completed training to this standard
- at least 3 years relevant industrial experience
- a verifiable CV
Delivery
Delivery will be off the job in a training environment.
All materials and equipment must be of a suitable quality and quantity for delegates to achieve learning outcomes and must comply with relevant legislation.
The class size and delegate/trainer ratio must allow training to be delivered in a safe manner and enable delegates to achieve the learning outcomes.
The following delivery methods may be used in the delivery of this standard:
- classroom
- a blend of classroom and remote
This standard is considered to contain 51% or more practical training.
This standard is considered to be set at an intermediate level.

Methods of assessment considered appropriate for training delivered against this standard are:
For the successful completion of training, delegates must complete an end of course practical assessment that measures all learning outcomes and has a pass or fail criteria.
Quality assurance
Assured
Quality assurance against this standard will require initial approval of the training organisation and their content mapped to the standard.
CITB will also conduct an approval intervention, either desk-based or centre visit, to ensure the training organisation can meet the requirements of the training standard.
Approved training organisations (ATOs) will be required to present information on records of training and assessment upon request to CITB for desk-based analysis. They will also be visited annually by the CITB quality assurance team.
Renewal
There are no mandatory renewal or recommended refresher requirements for this standard.

Learning outcomes
The delegate will be able to:
- interpret the code of practice design recommendations.
- correctly set up and shut down the welding equipment.
- use tools and equipment to fabricate and install flat and pitched roofing details.
- prepare substrate with underlay and wood roll.
- consider and prepare ventilation details.
- fabricate and install flat roofing with bossed and welded examples of roll ends and abutments to minimum falls with rolls staggered.
- fabricate and install 3 to 10 degree sloping roofing with bossed and welded examples of roll ends and abutments to minimum falls with rolls in line and additional fixing.
- fabricate and install pitched roofing above 10 degrees with wood rolled, hollow roll and welted joint details including fixings and clipping.
- fabricate and install parapet gutter with step details.
- fabricate and install box gutter sump with circular spigot outlet.
- fabricate and install box gutter chute to hopper through wall.
- clean all work areas and store scrap lead ready for recycling.
